24 Hour Home Care for Seniors in Los Angeles

????????????????????????????????????????

With so much going on around the world today, it’s hard to find enough time to spend with the ones we love. Quality time with friends, family members, and the people we care for can start to decrease because of school, work, and other demands in life. This situation can become even more stressful when the lives and health of those we care for actually depend on constant regulation and companionship. This is often the case when seniors, who are prone to develop problems with their kidneys, bones, heart, and mind, enter into such a state of dependence. What is a dutiful son or daughter to do when they have to juggle managing their own life and that of their mother and mother, while simultaneously tending to life’s tasks?

Many people have posed this question and many have found their answer with A-1 Home Care. Lower Your Cholesterol For Better Heart Health

Couple and their dog english spaniel having a cuddle

A common misconception about cholesterol-lowering foods is that they can cure your high cholesterol.  However, that is far from the case if you eat a a bowl of almonds then a bucket of fried chicken hours later.  It is important to understand the need to replace the high cholesterol food with the healthier alternative.  In addition, keep in mind about moderation. Eating too much food, even if it is healthy, can increase your waistline due to the caloric intake.  Weight gain is also a contributing factor when it comes to high cholesterol levels.

Don’t think you need to tackle your cholesterol problem alone.  Seek support from friends and family to help you adopt a healthy lifestyle, ask and work with your doctor with your cholesterol levels, and remember that your genetics help play a role in cholesterol levels as well!

DSCN0717

The holidays are best spent with others.  In fact, the more the merrier.  As a result, we decided to set up an event at the Two Palms Convalescent Hospital in Pasadena to spread some holidays cheers with some participating seniors.  A room full of participant was ready for us in the activity room, ready for our presentations on the meaning of Christmas.  We also different clips of classic Christmas movies, listened to some wonderful Christmas music, and everyone had a smile on their faces.  Finally we proceeded to our main event, the wonderful arts and crafts activity suggested by our case manager Jackie Brown.  There was already a Christmas tree at the corner of the room, and it was perfect because we have brought each participant ornaments, glues, and glitters to decorate their tree!

How to Prevent and Cope with Stress and Anxiety

arthritis symptoms burbank

No one likes to be stressed out.  Our body naturally do not function as well when we are stressed.  Psychologically, stress can be an ongoing problem for many.  Therefore, we want to present to you a few tips on how to cope with stress and anxiety from the American Psychological Association.  First, be involved within your community and stay social.  It can help boost an individual’s confidence and self esteem by participating on events with others.  Many elderly, in particular, are lacking in social interaction with others, and leading to unnecessary stress.  Another great way to prevent stress is by positive thinking.  Being negative only puts more stress on your body.  Why not view a glass as half full instead of half empty?  It may take practice to fend away the negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones, but it can be done.  Lastly, there are many relaxation methods, such as Yoga, Tai Chi, a massage, visualization, and other ways to help keep a person calm.  The goal is to slow down the breathing and keep the heart rate low.

In home care service from A-1 Home Care not only leave out the worry around the household for seniors, but it can also boost the social interactions for your loved ones.  Our caregivers are experienced, personable, and can provide transportation to local community centers and accompany them while ensuring their safety.  Our company has a policy that requires CPR and First Aid training fro our caregivers, and they all have clean criminal backgrounds for your peace of mind.  They are versatile as well, because our care providers can work in many home care scenarios, including, but not limited to Post Surgical Care, Alzheimer’s Care, Multiple Sclerosis Care, Incontinence Care, Heart Attack Care, Parkinson’s Care, and Kidney Disease Care.  We are also proud to be able to cover all areas in Los Angeles County, such as the communities of Encino, Calabasas, Santa Monica, Malibu, Century City, Westwood, Studio City, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, San Marino, Arcadia, Whittier, Pico Rivera, and many other areas.

a-1 home care cancer orange county

Many of us would decide to stay home when we are sick with a flu, but for people with more serious disease such as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, or ALS, they might be secluded from the outside world.  However, someone should not be limited simply because of their disability.  A great article on the ALS Association website discussed about how to plan ALS patients who travels to make it easier for the patients to have less frustration while traveling.  Some of the tips include arriving at the airport early, checking your wheelchair or scooter at the boarding gate, using dry cell batteries instead of wet cell on the power chairs, and request the return of equipment if there is a layover.  In addition, airlines are required to have a Complaint Resolution Officer to deal with any problems that a disabled person may encounter, so if there is a problem, please seek and direct this officer for help.

While traveling can be a bit stressful for ALS patients, they can also lead to a more fulfilling life.  As a result, A-1 Home Care aims to help relieve stress and improve upon the quality of life in our patients with our in home care service.  We offer Lou Gehrig’s Disease Care, After Surgery Care, Heart Attack Care, Incontinence Care, Diabetic Care, Multiple Sclerosis Care, Brain Injury Care, and other home care scenarios.  Areas we cover include Palos Verdes, Hollywood, Calabasas, Sherman Oaks, Santa Monica, Malibu, Brentwood, Beverly Hills,  and other surrounding communities in Los Angeles and Orange County.

It is always good to know if you are at risk for something, especially for something as serious as heart disease.  Since heart disease is the leading killer in the United States, it is even more important to understand the situation.  The following are some of the risk factors involving heart disease that you and your loved ones should know about.

As we age, it is natural for our risk to increase when it comes to a weakened or thickened heart muscle.  Although men are normally at a higher risk for heart disease, women who are after their menopause are also at an increased risk.  Because we are a nation that loves food, watching our diet should be one of the top priorities.  Poor diets with high fat, salt, and cholesterol can contribute to high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and other conditions that all increase the risk for heart disease. How Traumatic Brain Injuries can Affect Quality of Life

????????????????????????????????????????

Humans are creatures of emotions and social interactions,  and our brains controls how we go about in our daily lives.  Brain injuries occur during falls, physical violence, and sports, but a majority of them are caused during car accidents.  Since symptoms may or may not show until a few weeks after the injury, people with brain injuries could be left untreated.  From cognitive to perceptual to physical to behavioral, symptoms of traumatic brain injury can be varied depending on the severity and location of the injury.  Some examples of symptoms presented by WebMD include “difficulty processing information, spatial disorientation, seizures, change in vision, and more.  Because those are all essential part of how we live, we should not be taking brain injuries lightly, even if it is only a mild case.  If there is any suspicion of a brain injury after a fall, a hit to the head, or any car accidents, seek emergency help immediately.

Our mission here at A-1 home Care is to improve the quality of life for those in need for a little help at home, whether it is brain injury care, Alzheimer’s care, diabetic care, kidney disease care, hospice care, Lou Gehrigs disease care, multiple sclerosis care, Parkinson’s Care, and more.  Our caregivers are covered by malpractice/liability insurance, each are required to have 2 years of professional caregiving experience, and have passed a criminal background check.  We place caregivers everywhere around Los Angeles and Orange County, including the areas of Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Whittier, Glendale, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Century City,  Beverly Hills, Pasadena, San Marino, and more.
